Business Promotion

Broadway Hometown Partnership aids businesses in promotions that keep consumers in the immediate area and in an extended area coming back for Main Street Broadway products and services.

2004 Projects

New Resident Packages: At the request of Broadway businesses and as a result of a significantly increasing population in Broadway it is prudent for Broadway Hometown Partnership to create new resident packets for the purpose of introducing new residents to the community.

  1. This packet will need to include brief information on all Broadway businesses.
  2. Businesses will be invited to participate by including a promotional document, card, or coupon.
  3. The Town of Broadway office will be asked for their assistance in the distribution of the packets, as all new residents are required to visit this location.

North Fork Business Profiles: Broadway Hometown Partnership will lobby the North Fork Journal to include business profiles in its publication. The purpose of this activity is to further increase visibility and knowledge of Broadway businesses.

  1. Broadway Hometown Partnership will discuss with the North Fork Journal the potential of reviving an earlier idea of business profiles.
  2. BHP will offer to write business profiles on behalf of Broadway businesses.
  3. BHP will work with local Chambers of Commerce so as to include all area businesses, lighten the Partnership’s workload and create a more enticing proposal for the North Fork Journal.

SBDC Relationship: To further create an atmosphere in which new small business can thrive Broadway Hometown Partnership will establish a relationship with the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center.

  1. Broadway Hometown Partnership will seek to learn in detail about the services and assistance provided by the SBDC.
  2. Broadway Hometown Partnership will educate the SBDC on the purpose and vision of the organization and work to collaborate efforts.
  3. BHP will make Broadway businesses aware of all SBDC seminars and training opportunities and encourage the SBDC to make potential investors aware of the business friendly practices of the Town of Broadway.

Marketing Grants: Broadway Hometown Partnership (BHP) understands that small businesses face a particularly difficult challenge when first starting. Proven track records have not yet been established and advertising is neglected due to low initial revenues. As a result, BHP has established $1,000 grants to aid businesses that have located within the Town of Broadway in the last four years to assist with marketing and advertising.

Advertising grants, especially to businesses in their infancy reduce the likelihood of failure, increase sales and allow for budgetary breaks that potentially yield new jobs. Moreover, grants of this nature will further solidify Broadway's image as a business friendly community increasing the probability of new business recruitment, job creation and business expansion. Broadway Hometown Partnership will follow the model established in 2003.

Develop Broadway's Image in Outlying Areas: To ensure that Broadway’s gross revenues continue to increase the trade area must expand. Therefore, it is important that those outside of the established five-mile radius are made aware of businesses in Broadway through partnerships and an effective marketing campaign.

  1. Broadway Hometown Partnership will work with the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Convention & Visitor Bureau, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce and local tourist centers.
  2. Broadway Hometown Partnership will establish a marketing campaign aimed at making consumers in outlying areas aware of Broadway businesses.
  3. Broadway Hometown Partnership will continue to issue press releases for the purpose of making consumers in outlying areas aware of Broadway businesses.

Business Guide Distribution: To further create awareness of the number and variety of businesses of Broadway and to have available an alternative for the business web pages for those without internet access it is necessary for Broadway Hometown Partnership to create and distribute business guides.

  1. The business guides should provide an overview of the majority of merchants within Town limits and attractions just outside of Town limits (Shoppes of Mauzy, Shenville Creamery, etc.).
  2. These guides should be made available in areas of high tourist traffic such as Bryce, Massanutten and various tourist centers.
  3. The booklet should also outline the aesthetic changes that can be expected within the next few years so as to increase the likelihood of a future visit.

Holiday Retail Promotion: For the purpose of attracting consumers in outlying areas to shop in Broadway during the holiday season Broadway Hometown Partnership shall continue the Twelve Days of Christmas Shopping retail promotion. Much like the Halloweenfest event, more attention must be paid to the relationship between participant and purchaser. This task can by accomplished by:

  1. Requiring participating businesses to make note of those contestants that make a purchase and request a word.
  2. Use a system developed in the Halloweenfest event rather than promotional based system of marketing.

Other Services

Specialized Cross Promotions
Broadway Hometown Partnership works with your business to create complementary promotional activities and sales events with other local businesses. Cross promoting increases public awareness, lessens advertising costs, encourages consumers to shop locally, and lets the community know that Broadway businesses work together.

Business Features in Capitalization
Let other Main Street businesses and the community members know exactly what your business has to offer, the history behind the name, and your business’ future plans. Broadway Hometown Partnership features a business in each issue of its quarterly newsletter, Capitalization.

Sponsorships
There is no better way to let the town know that your company supports community than to sponsor a Broadway Hometown Partnership event. Sponsorships are available for the Broadway Farmers’ Market, Valley Fine Art Festival, and the Broadway Music Festival. (Rates Vary, contact BHP office for specific event.)

Heritage Buildings
From My Home Towne, heritage buildings let the community know the unique history of your building. Currently, the 1907 Broadway High School is on store shelves, but if your building is of historical significance to Broadway, why not let the area know with a collectable limited edition building.
