About Us

Who is Broadway Hometown Partnership?

Broadway Hometown Partnership started out as an idea, a thought, a vision for what could be. It was started by a group of local citizens who cared deeply about the decline of our town and wanted to do “something” to help revitalize the slowly eroding business center. In January 2001 a meeting including members of the community, business leaders and government officials was called to order for the purpose of discussing the revitalization of Broadway. The result was the creation of a new organization charged with the task of creating social and economic viability while maintaining a small town atmosphere.

Broadway Hometown Partnership is comprised of a fifteen-member board of directors and one staff person. With the exception everyone that serves on the Board of Directors is a volunteer. Directors represent virtually every aspect of the community including business owners, community members, government and organizations. (Ruritans, etc.) For a complete list of Board members "Board Member List" please click here.

What is Broadway Hometown Partnership?

Broadway Hometown Partnership (BHP) is 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an affiliate of the Virginia Main Street Program that works to create social and economic viability by working with businesses and community members.

What is Broadway Hometown Partnership's Purpose?

Broadway Hometown Partnership has been charged with managing four key components of creating a better community for both residents and businesses.

These components include Design (assisting the Town with beautification efforts), Promotion (keeping Broadway at the forefront through special events, business accomplishments, marketing efforts and media relations), Economic Restructuring (assisting & developing existing businesses and recruiting new businesses) and Organization (maintaining consensus among community members and business owners.)

How does Broadway Hometown Partnership accomplish its purpose?

While commercial revitalization can be addressed in many ways, the underlying premise of Broadway Hometown Partnership and the Main Street approach is summed up in the program goals –to promote social and economic viability and a positive image while maintaining Broadway’s unique hometown atmosphere and to encourage economic development, within the context of historic preservation, which is appropriate to today's market place, respectively. These approaches advocate a return to community self-reliance, empowerment, and the rebuilding of a commercial area based on its traditional assets: unique architecture, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.

By implementing these methods, Broadway Hometown Partnership creates opportunities for Broadway that include protecting and strengthening the existing tax base, increasing retail sales and returning revenues to the community, creating new housing in visually appealing and functional Main Street buildings, attracting new businesses, creating new jobs and preserving historic resources.  The result of this is the return of Broadway as a hub of social and commercial activity, a stable tax base, and an energized community.

Physical Revitalization of Broadway: BHP makes Broadway more attractive by helping building owners renovate their buildings, filling vacant buildings, and working closely with the Town on public beautification efforts. The results of these efforts are readily seen every day throughout Broadway.

Promotion of Broadway: BHP increases downtown activity through the creation of new and exciting events like the Halloweenfest, Valley Fine Art Festival, The Great Egg Hunt, Christmas Caroling, The Valley Bluegrass Festival and the Broadway Farmers’ Market. These entertaining events, along with retail promotion assistance help our businesses continue to grow and thrive by attracting new visitors, not residents, which helps to maintain our small town atmosphere.

Economic Revitalization of Broadway: Broadway Hometown Partnership has created an environment conducive to the establishment of new business. When new restaurants were consistently asked for by the residents of our Town, Broadway Hometown Partnership recruited them. As a matter of fact, the Partnership has and is continuing to bring new businesses asked for by the citizens of Broadway. Moreover, Broadway Hometown Partnership has assisted our existing businesses with design services, retail promotions, and financial information that have led to increased revenues in key areas. Why is this important? By increasing revenues for businesses it lessens the tax burden on the community, keeps money local providing more for schools, and allows local government to focus on public works that create a better community.

Organization: establishes cooperation among the community. It is responsible for a renewed sense of community identity, purpose, and pride in Broadway. We make certain that you have a voice in the revitalization of your town. We listen very closely to the community and make decisions accordingly.
